Why Say No To Braces?
Braces are known to cause a lot of other diseases like:-
- Cardiovascular i.e. Heart Diseases– Infective Endocarditis
- Inherited coagulopathies i.e. bleeding disorders– deficiencies in clotting factors, Sickle cell anemia, Leukemia
- Respiratory irt difficulty in breathing– Asthma
- Neurological i.e. related to the nerves- Epilepsy
- Hepatic i.e. liver related–hepatitis
- Endocrine i.e. hormonal – Diabetes Mellitus, Juvenile diabetes
- Musculoskeletal disorders / Diseases of the Muscles and Bone – Juvenile idiopathic arthritis, Osteoporosis, Ricketts
- Anaphylactic i.e. extreme allergy’s- Allergy to nickel , latex allergy
Here’s a Brief Overview Regarding the Same
The use of orthodontic appliances must be avoided in high-risk patients with poor oral hygiene. People who are smokers, have low dexterity. Unable to brush properly.
Bondable brackets and buccal tubes with auxiliaries are to be used instead using banding procedures.
This decision is based on the risk of endocarditis represented by the patient’s heart defect (high or moderate) and the patient’s dental health.
Patients with a history of asthma seem to be at a high risk for developing excessive root resorption i.e. loss in the anchorage of root support during treatment. This emphasizes the prescription of low forces by the doctor for these patients.
Gingival growth i.e. Gum Growth with phenytoin is widely known complication of anti-leptic medication. For such patients, physician should be contacted to discuss medication.
Space closing mechanics which is basically closure of gaps using elastics & chains can impinge on the hyper gingival tissue. Therefore, they are not used in these patients.
#Diabetic related microangiopathy can affect the peripheral vascular supply, resulting in unexplained toothache, tenderness to percussion and even loss of vitality
#Light physiological forces should be used in all patients to avoid proper movement .Orthodontic treatment is avoided in patients with poorly controlled Diabetes as they are more likely to suffer from periodontal breakdown. That means that patients with high sugar levels are poor healers and cant adapt to the forces by our appliance .
Tired of Train track braces?
Epigenetics: In genetics, epigenetics is the study of cellular and physiological trait variations that are not caused by changes in the DNA sequence.
In layman’s terms, epigenetics is the study of external or environmental factors that turn genes on and off and affect how cells read genes. So you would be surprised to know that we can changes how are genes behave without changing the DNA .
The point here is to catch the Patient and his problem Young and Treat it.
A removable or fixed appliance that favorably changes the soft tissue environment.
This is basically achieved by changing the position of the lower jaw, so as to transmit forces, generated by stretching of muscles, fascia .Through the acrylic and wirework to the teeth and bones. To achieve ideal teeth.
In simple words we control the growth of the face, profile, surrounding structures at the growing stage itself and hence avoid Braces completely later.
For Instance in ideal situations it’s seen that our upper jaw is outside and lower inside. If at all we feel that a child has a opposite profile we have appliances for him, that train him to close the mouth in a ideal desired manner.
Another example Take a Child who sucks his thumb out of reflex or his mouth is always open .We as parents would get upset with him/ her and try to correct by repetitive reminders so this is exactly What Habit Breaking Appliances do. They are like a forced reminder, kids lack compliance and that is exactly what we reinforce.
Another thing is the Physiological Aspect to these, if the child has a constant reminder and reinforcement from the Dentist, he tries to outshine parent’s expectations.
